  2. Wanted to thank you for your comment on my recent post, and your opinions DO count to me! It doesn't matter if you're from this country, the elected president of this country impacts the world quite a lot, so I believe it is good to know what others feel, and I think you hit it right!
Oh, and Happy Deepavali to you and your family (though I, too, will have to google ... unless you could explain? It helps with teaching "tolerance and diversity" for us who'd like to know, ya know?)

  3. Hello All,

My apology for not explaining the festival. This festival is celebrated by all Hindus around the world.

In Singapore, this day is a public holiday for the third largest race on this island after Chinese and Malays.

Being a Malay Muslim, I do not celebrate the Hindu festival but sure enjoy the long weekend as the holiday fell on Monday. I have Indian friends at work and know several over the years, so this greeting is for them.

I have quoted our local tourism board's concise summary of this festival for you.

"Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, is the most important festival in the Hindu Calendar. Hindus all over the world celebrate the victory of good over evil, light over darkness. Oil lamps are lit to thank the Gods for happiness, knowledge, health and wealth received.

During this season, the temples and streets in Little India are lit with streamers and dazzling lights to welcome one and all. The Sri Veeramakaliamman, Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman and Sri Srinivasa Perumal temples are decorated with spectacular display lights as the whole of Serangoon Road dazzles to usher in Deepavali."

Hope this piece of info helps you to understand about this one among the many religious festivities we have here in Singapore.

Thanks for stopping by and your genuine interest to know more about our lives here.

    Have a good week ahead.
